PRESS RELEASE
New Sphinx Logon Manager Feature Enables Quick "User-switching"
San Francisco, CA, February 28, 2005 A feature update now enables cardholders at Sphinx Logon Manager installations to quickly access computer terminals, without having to logon and logoff each time. This update was requested by customers who are challenged with securing computer access in a fast-paced environment, where access to a computer may be intermittent but frequent throughout a cardholder's day.
In fast-paced environments, such as a hospital or a production floor, cardholders need to access a computer terminal quickly. Waiting for a computer to perform logon and logoff between sessions may add up to too many extra minutes throughout the day that a cardholder can't afford to lose.
The Sphinx update instead uses the Windows "lock computer" function, so that when a cardholder pulls their card from the card reader the computer will be immediately locked. When the next cardholder presents their card to the reader, Sphinx recognizes the new cardholder, unlocks the computer, and is ready to logon to any website or application specific to the new card.
In this scenario, although all cardholders are using the same Windows session, each card’s activity and workstation name can be traced within the Sphinx transaction reports. Only presentation of the card and entry of their individual PIN will enable the cardholder to use a workstation.
