New Sphinx Global Mode a Hit With Distributed Installations

Oakland, CA, July 12, 2010

Sphinx' new Global Mode now makes it possible for an organization to install the Sphinx Enterprise software at different sites, but still share cardholder data and/or program settings. This allows Sphinx administrators to manage cardholders on either a global or site-specific basis, while enabling cardholders to logon with Sphinx at any installation site.

Previously, Sphinx offered only Independent Mode, which did not allow for database sharing. A Mixed Mode is also available, which allows distributed installations to share cardholder data, but still maintain separate program settings.

A more detailed description of all three modes is provided below:

  • Independent Mode:
CardMaker administrator stations use individual program settings and maintain separate databases. Each site’s CardMaker installation is administrated individually, and CardMaker stations do not share information.

Appropriate for: Installations where cardholder data and program settings are completely independent at each installation location.

How it works: Install CardMaker on each desired machine and connect each station to its own database.
  • Global Mode:
CardMaker administrator stations are linked over a network and share a central database or database cluster. All stations share globally available cardholder data and program settings.

Appropriate for: Multi-site installations which share a database where cardholder data as well as program settings - such as password policies and card usage - must be available at all sites and are the same at each installation.

How it works: Install CardMaker on each desired machine and connect each station to the central database or cluster.
  • Mixed Mode:
CardMaker administrator stations are linked over a network and share a central database or database cluster. All stations share globally available cardholder data, but each station maintains individual program settings.

Appropriate for: Multi-site installations which share cardholder data where program settings - such as password policies and card usage - can be maintained separately at each installation.

How it works: Install CardMaker on each desired machine and connect each station to the central database or cluster, but specify a unique site ID for each CardMaker station.
