Sphinx’ Compatibility with AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensor Expands Authentication Options

Oakland, CA, September 18, 2009

The Sphinx Logon Manager software is now compatible with the AuthenTec AES2501 fingerprint sensor. With nearly 50 million fingerprint sensors in use worldwide, AuthenTec is the world’s leading provider of smart fingerprint sensors and solutions.

Sphinx customers can use devices equipped with the AuthenTec AES2501 sensor for computer logon in one of three ways:

  • Logon with fingerprint only:
Sphinx prompts end-user to swipe finger on sensor to logon to computers, websites, or applications, authenticating "who you are".
  • Logon with fingerprint and card:
Additionally, end-user is prompted to insert a card into a card reader, adding the security element of "what you have".
  • Logon with fingerprint, card, and PIN:
Additionally, end-user is prompted to type in a PIN, providing the highest level of security with the addition of "what you know".

Enrolling end-user fingerprints for use with Sphinx is easy. Upon first use, end-users are simply prompted to enroll two fingerprints by swiping their fingers on the sensor.

AuthenTec’s patented TruePrint® technology generates a high quality image of each fingerprint, ensuring that the sensor is both easy to use and reliable. As described by AuthenTec, "TruePrint® technology is the only technology in production that reads below the surface of the skin to the live layer, where the true fingerprint resides." End users are able to easily save and authenticate against their fingerprint, and administrators can be confident in the quality of the fingerprint images.

The AuthenTec AES2501 sensor is built-in to a wide variety of devices on the market including laptops, keyboards, and external USB devices such as the Omnikey CardMan 7121 reader.
